About Oak Inheritance
Originally
founded in 1980 as Michigan Hardwood Products, Oak Inheritance, Inc. was incorporated
in August 1998. In October 2006 we have become Oak Inheritance LLC. The company was founded by our grandfather, Tom Gerow. When he
passed away on May 10 of 1998, it was then turned over to my cousin Samantha, who always had a lot of interest in the company and served as
Sales Vice-President during her sophomore year in college. As good as this sounds,
they were the only employees.
My grandfather
worked primarily with an Amish woodworker in Goshen, Indiana. Lester made the
children's furniture that my grandfather sold to retail stores large and small
throughout Michigan. After his death, my grandmother turned my grandfather's
company over to my cousin Samantha, who brought this small family buisness into the 20th century and put it on the website. Since then, Samantha has recently stepped down and out of the company and as owner and I, Emily Baer, have bought the company.
Background Information on the Amish in Northern Indiana
"Take a step back in time to Shipshewana, Indiana. Smell the aroma of fresh
bread baking. Hear the gentle rhythm of horses' hooves as the Amish go to
market. Touch the fabric, the wood and the materials of quality goods found in
abundance. Shipshewana is located in the center of the third largest Amish
communities in the United States. The simple lifestyle of the Amish generates
many questions." Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions.
